An epic spanning four centuries, it begins in the 17th century in Westminster with a court magician's wager that he could make the King shiver on a hot summer's day: and ends in the future with a strange gravity-defying quantum world where physicists approach to within a few billionths of a degree of this ABSOLUTE ZERO. The story culminates in a place so cold that the physical world, as we understand it, no longer exists: a strange quantum world where electricity flows freely without resistance, fluids defy gravity and creep up over the sides of containers, and the speed of light can be slowed to a crawl.
